RMS Primary teacher Jan Cramer loves to read and she loves to quilt. So what better way to bring two loves together!  Here, she talks about some favorite quilting books, what we can learn -- and even how her students are making a quilt of their own, piece by piece, until it's ready to give away and keep someone warm!

Watch the interview with Jane talking about her favorite books and her hobby.  Or browse below to see more about her favorites -- children's books about quilting, and the books she's reading right now as well!

Jan's pick The Quiltmaker's Gift tells the story of a generous quiltmaker who finally agrees to make a quilt for a greedy king -- but with one condition!  Will the king learn the art of giving?  Read the book to find out!  And enjoy the beautiful illustrations, which Jan points out are one of the hallmarks of a great children's book.

The  Boy and the Quilt: With a little help from his mother and sister, a young boy makes a quilt of his own. This paperback book also includes instructions for making a quilt, like the one Jan and her students are making in their classroom.

The book Jan recently read that she recommends for adult readers is also available in a special children's edition (for roughly ages eight through twelve).  Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to Change the World ... One Child at a Time has been specially adapted for younger readers and updated by Greg Mortenson to bring his remarkable story of humanitarianism up to date for the present. Includes new photos and illustrations, as well as a special interview by Greg's twelve-year-old daughter, Amira, who has traveled with her father as an advocate for the Pennies for Peace program for children.

The adult version Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace .. One School at a Time is the inspiring account of one man's campaign to build schools in the most dangerous, remote, and anti-American reaches of Asia.

And to follow up, Jan is reading the sequel, Stones into Schools, Promoting Peace with Books, not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this dramatic narrative, author Greg Mortenson picks up where Three Cups of Tea left off in 2003, recounting his relentless, ongoing efforts to establish schools for girls in Afghanistan. He shares for the first time his broader vision to promote peace through education and literacy.
